Caring for Our Community’s Pets

Did you know that in 2023, over 230 animals were taken in and cared for at the Grand County Animal Shelter? The Animal Shelter not only processes adoptions, but also helps reunite lost pets with their owners. If you follow us on Facebook, you’ve probably seen posts shared about found cats and dogs. With the community’s help, we’re able to reconnect lost pets with their owners. Here are some numbers on how we help our community and their pets, representing 2024 stats so far, updated quarterly:

  • 8 pets reunited with their owner before heading to the shelter
  • 24 animals released to their owner after a stay at the shelter
  • 10 dogs and 13 cats adopted
  • 14 spay/neuter vouchers distributed to help reduce the cost for pet owners
  • 28 animals called in lost to the shelter

Spaying and neutering your pets is one of the best ways to help combat the homeless pet problem and the needless killing of innocent animals whose only “crime” was to have been born. Learn about the problem and why it is so important to spay and neuter.
